Canadian dance will be well represented in the 2010 edition when the stunning Bridgett Zehr and Zdenek Konvalina from The National Ballet of Canada perform the Coppelia pas de deux and Rubies pas de deux from Jewels. Audiences will be mesmerized by Ashley Bouder and Amar Ramasar from New York City Ballet when they perform Who Cares pas de deux, and Tarantella, both with choreography by Balanchine. Dorothée Gilbert and Alessio Carbone, superstars from Paris Opera Ballet will dazzle audiences with their performance of Les Enfants du Paradis pas de deux, and Esmerelda pas de deux.

Dancers Anastasia Matvienko and Denis Matvienko from Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet will mix the classical with the contemporary, as they perform Don Quixote pas de deux, and Radio and Juliet, a fusion of the most famous love story of all time with the music of prolific pop band Radiohead. Elisa Carillo Cabrera and Mikhail Kaniskin from Berlin Opera Company will perform “Fanfare LX” with choreography by Douglas Lee, and Le Grand pas de deux with choreography by Christian Spuck. Daniil Simkin from American Ballet Theatre will perform his trademark Les Bourgeois to the music of Jacques Brel, and will then team up with Iana Salenko from Berlin Opera Ballet for a rare performance of Tchaikovsky pas de deux.

Born and raised in Russia, Nadia Veselova-Tencer graduated from the world-renowned Kirov Ballet Academy in St Petersburg before emigrating to Canada and founding Toronto’s prestigious Academy of Ballet & Jazz with her partner Solomon Tencer in 1988.Veselova-Tencer has worked with more than one hundred international ballet stars in her capacity as Artistic Director of Stars of the 21st Century, and has been named a “Master Teacher” by Dance Magazine.

A portion of the proceeds from STARS OF THE 21st CENTURY are earmarked to benefit cultural programming and scholarships at the Koffler Centre of the Arts, a Toronto-based contemporary Jewish arts and cultural institution with a broad mandate to serve all Canadians through a global lens.

The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts will re-open on Friday, October 1st, 2010 following two years of renovations and restorations.  Single tickets are on sale now.
