FRIDAE TV’S FEBRUARY 2011 CHART – CANADIANS ROCK!!

Photography By: Fridae Mattas

Here it is! The February 2011 FridaeTV Youtube chart! I must say Girlicious held on strong and it’s sad that two of the remaining three have departed the group leaving Nichole Cordova as the sole femme in Girlicious, I wish her and the rest of the girls the best! There is a mixture of artists that popped into the chart this month like, City And Colour’sTHE GIRL“Mary Rose Obsession” with their rock cover of Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around Come Around” and a few more mostly Canadian artists. MRO recently won Hard Rock Cafe’s 2011  Battle of the Bands and are now representing  Canada in the worldwide online competition. The winner wins a spot on stage at Hard Rock’s London Calling, a three-day musical celebration taking place in Hyde Park. This year’s headliner is Bon Jovi, so all the bands are battling it out to open for them. Past headliners include Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, The Who, Aerosmith, and The Killers.

This month My Darkest Days is #1 both in Canada and The United States who are the biggest MDD fans across the globe by far! Because of the dual #1’s they made it to the top of the overall chart booting Girlicious from their throne! For the first time on the FridaeTV chart My Darkest Days is # 1 in Canada since they made the Canadian stats available. With the release of their new single “Move Your Body” this is just the beginning for this small town Canadian band, they are nominated for a slew of Canadian Awards, will be hitting the road again this month with Papa Roach and Buckcherry and if you miss a show don’t worry I’m sure you will be able to catch them playing some sort of festival somewhere in North America this summer!

THE DRACULAS & AMOS THE TRANSPARENT LIVE 88.5′S SHOWCASE 2010

Photography By: Fridae Mattas

Radio Station LIVE 88.5  from Ottawa put on an industry showcase at The Rivoli in Toronto for the current winners and previous winners of the major battle f the bands competition they hold annually. I was able to catch the second last tune of ‘The Draculas‘ set, I was disappointed that I missed most of the set and couldn’t even take any photos. But, I did manage to film a track (Click the 2nd up coming Draculas link to watch.) and had an interview with Singer Eric Eggleston of  ‘The Draculas’  later joined by the rest of the band, check it out HERE.

You can Buy The Draculas new EP ‘Slap IT’ on iTunes now

Another band on the showcase bill was Amos The Transparent I enjoyed them but they could use a little work some of the back up vocals sounded messy.

INDIE WEEK IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! OCT 13TH – 17TH! ONLY $15!

Indie Week’s Biggest Year Yet and Unbelievably Affordable!

$15 for 150 Bands

Indie Week rolls into town Oct 13 and hijacks 15 venues for 5 nights. With 50% more acts than 2009, this is Indie Week’s biggest year yet, at 150 bands. For a limited time only Early Bird priced wristbands can be purchased at www.ticketscene.ca for $15. Fifteen dollars to attend all showcases, parties and industry panels is completely nuts. On Oct 01 prices increase to $20 (which is still unbelievably cheap). The wristband allows entry into some wicked parties. When was the last time you went to céilidh… in Toronto? Indie Week and Charlottetown’s Tim Chaisson are presenting a céilidh at Drake Underground on Sat Oct 16. Maritime culture will be imported for a great evening of music, dance, drink, and fun!

Indie Week is also presenting a full lineup of Australian bands. They’re coming here after a 21-hour flight, people. Check ‘em out at Underground Garage on Fri Oct 15.

Also on the bill: Christina Martin’s CD release party at the Indie Week Launch Party (Wed Oct 13 @ Hideout), the Irish Showcase featuring Indie Week 2010 winners The Whatmans (Fri Oct 15 @ Hideout) and the BalconyTV Toronto Launch Party and Showcase at the Underground Garage on Sat Oct 16 (Toronto’s newest online music show that gives bands their own “Beatles Rooftop Moment”).

Oh, and there are some tight bands playing. A Primitive Evolution, Ten Kens (Last Gang Records), These Electric Lives, Tin Star Orphans, Ahoora (metal band from Iran), special guest Simon Walls who’s walking across Canada, Isle of Dogs (OE from Birthday Massacre’s band), and 143+ more!
