ANIME NORTH 2014
FEATURE EDITORIAL
By: Fridae Mattas
Better late than never right? Everything is edited and ready to go, Anime North 2014 came and went, honestly almost forgot about it! It’s always amazing to see so many people who are passionate about something without inhibitions, it was like Halloween in May. Anime North is a conference for people to showcase their creativity with cosplay outfits to be judged and a place of gathering for the cosplay community, where artists and vendors can showcase and sell their creations.
This conference is for those who love manga, comics, cosplay, basically anything animation that your heart desires. This year they introduced wrestling, it was pretty fun to watch the different characters fight each other, my favorite was Elmo vs Super Mario I thoroughly enjoyed it! A little disappointed when I didn’t find a cosplay creation that blew my mind and the robots were nowhere to be found but there were many Sailor Moons and Ursulas in flotation. The organization was incredible, a round of applause for the team that puts this together every year. It was very well organized and grows every year with added events at a few of the hotels around the Toronto Congress Centre. No violence, everyone was friendly and accepting, except one incident where a cool cosplay kid was being followed everywhere by instant fans.
If you really want to explore the world of cosplay, Anime North is a great starter destination but take it day by day it can get a little overwhelming. Enjoy the photos and video below, next year I’m hoping to find that mind-blasting cosplayer! Bring it!
