FINAL FLASH LIVE
Indica/EMI Recording artists Final Flash fresh from Montreal recently released their record “Homeless” May 4th 2010 and is now available in stores and on iTunes for purchase. In support of the new record the band is embarking on a tour to spread the word about the new album. They kicked off in Ottawa are wrapping it up in Montreal, I checked them last night at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern (DA SHOE) in Toronto and they continue on to Peterborough tonight to jam out at the Red Dog before they hit up the UK.
I didn’t know what to expect because I couldn’t recall if I have seen them live or not. In the past five years of being in the music industry I have come across thousands of different bands and they all have started to blend, occasionally there are moments like these where I don’t remember if I have seen them or if they’re fresh. The only ones I remember are the ones who stand out. First tune of the set I missed, oops my bad but I got there in time to catch the good stuff, The lighting at the Shoe always sucks balls, it’s too dark, they only have lighting on the center part of the stage leaving some of the band in the dark, placement with the lighting is all wrong. The sound surprisingly was decent for the old Shoe, they could invest in better lighting though.
I tried really hard to get shots of all the band members but lack of lighting caused some issues and I hate using flash! If I don’t have to, I won’t. I will try very hard to work with the lighting but sometimes you have to do shit you don’t want to do. When I shoot a band I find it very important to highlight the whole band and not just the singer, they all contribute to the band and deserve the same amount of attention. Not everyone views it the same way I do but that’s because I am one of a kind.
Joey Chaperon Cyr’s vocals were pretty alright the tone is pleasant not too nappy he has a well rounded sound. The only thing I would say needs work is the enunciation I couldn’t understand some parts in a few of the tracks. He does do a superb job singing without an accent because he speaks with a distinct F.O.Q accent (F.O.Q = Fresh Outta Quebec). That’s always amazed me how some people when they sing the heavy accent disappears.
The band is awesome, lead guitarist Alexander Girard busted out a double neck couldn’t read what brand but hello! That is fucken amazing! Any Guitarist who can rock out on a dual is a great guitarist in my eyes that’s crazy my friends crazy! Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora was the first one I saw rock out on a dual. This kid did pretty good he embodied the vibe and was lost in his own musical world whilst playing. Bass – Andre Bendahan and Keys – Mathieu Bourret held it down, lots of energy and passion from the both of them. Drummer boy Maxime Hebert banged on those cans keeping the beat nice and tight. The whole band has chemistry and presence definitely worth checking out live.
