Born and raised in Ottawa, Kristina Maria like many artists knew she wanted to pursue a musical career early in her life. She began intensive vocal training at the Ottawa Conservatory in her early teens and landed a management deal with Vito Luprano, a Canadian music industry veteran, the first time they met. “She started singing a cappella and I stopped her and said, ‘You have a deal!’,” recalls Luprano. For more than 20 years, Luprano was Sony Music’s Senior Vice President, acting as artistic director for Celine Dion’s recording career and has worked with many other Canadian artists. He is now out of semi-retirement, specifically for Kristina Maria.
